equustemplar The album is a reminiscence. Evocative, each song tells at least 3 stories. The story of the writer, the stories in the mind of the singer who understands the song, and the stories the songs evoke from each listener. Favorite track: Just Dropped In.

about

I’ve been a serious fan of Mickey Newbury since the first album I bought (Frisco Mabel Joy) in the 70’s I still think of how that album was so groundbreaking as each song segued into the next with such colorful connections, be they the gentle rain or a passing train.
Mickeys lyrics were so clear and personal as each song told a story, often sad as in Frisco Depot and the Piper. But despite the inherent sadness the songs were also uplifting in many respects.

Add to all this Mickeys incredible vocal quality which breathed such real emotion into every verse giving even more substance to these wonderful songs

Over the years I’ve toyed with the idea of making an album of covers and tried different approaches including more instruments and players. Ultimately I decided to keep it stripped down with just guitar and vocals. I felt that if I put my heart and soul into the recording, the words and music that Mickey wrote will take care of everything else. I feel it honors the songs and allows the listener to hear the emotional beauty of the lyrics. Mickeys words are so powerful anyway, he truly is an American treasure.
I wish I could have met him and let him know how much his music has helped me in so many ways.
I hope you the listener will feel the same
